A first birthday in a banquet room in Oakville, themed Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. The palette was baby blue, white and silver, and it ran through everything in the room.
Each round table was dressed in baby-blue satin with white chair covers, under a balloon centrepiece: a pale-blue foil crescent moon floating over a white cloud of balloons, scattered with silver stars. The dessert table stood on oversized white letters spelling ONE, in front of a sheer white drape, with an organic garland of blue, white and pearl balloons climbing one side and a second moon overhead. Favours went home in silver jars tied with blue ribbon and a "Twinkle Thank You" tag.
For the youngest guests there was a clown, a face-painting station and a ride-on sports car with light-up wheels.
It is a different brief from a ballroom gala: no stage, no screens, nothing technical in view. The room simply had to look like the theme from the moment the family walked in.
