UHN Hybrid Event

UHN's Third Annual Toronto Lung Oncology Research Day, held with the University of Toronto on Friday 12 November 2021 at Vantage Venues, 150 King Street West. It was a hybrid event: a small, distanced audience in the room, and presenters and viewers online across seven sessions.

The room was a corner space high in the tower, with a curved window wall. A head table sat on a riser against black drape lit blue, with a podium beside it, a centre screen for the slides, and two UHN-branded screens on truss towers either side. A silver truss grid overhead carried broadcast lighting, so the speakers looked as good on the stream as they did in the room. A separate interview set with two high stools stood beside the tech area.

Behind black drape, the control area ran the show: several cameras, a digital mixing console and wireless microphones, and a bank of laptops — one for each remote presenter, so every speaker came in on their own feed and could appear on the room's screens and the stream at the same time. Questions from the online audience were collected on a page for each session and put to the speakers.

Some of the equipment was the venue's own in-house AV, working alongside ours. The crew was masked throughout.
